BCSD Taiwan Hosts Event Series to Guide Corporate Nature Action

As corporations deepen their engagement with nature-related methodologies like TNFD and SBTN, they are transitioning from theory to implementation. However, this shift often reveals practical obstacles within Taiwan’s specific environment. To address these challenges, BCSD Taiwan organized a series of events—comprising two public seminars and one exclusive internal workshop—to assist companies in overcoming assessment hurdles and expanding their nature transition actions.

Sep 11 Seminar: Exploring Nature Materiality

Focusing on the “Assess” phase of nature action, this seminar guided companies through the development of nature materiality assessment. As TNFD Early Adopters globally begin publishing disclosures, the session explored how to utilize local data to make international methodologies applicable to Taiwanese enterprises.

Event Highlights:

  • ERM Taiwan: Summarized the status of corporate nature assessment over the two years since the TNFD framework release.
  • NTU School of Forestry and Resource Conservation: Introduced methods for integrating Taiwan’s local biodiversity databases into assessments.
  • NTU Ocean Center: Presented the “Taiwanese version of ENCORE,” discussing how the tool reflects local realities.
  • Corporate Experience: Acer, Sinyi Realty, and Chunghwa Telecom shared insights on gaining executive buy-in and overcoming internal implementation challenges.

Nov 27 Seminar: Post-COP30 Observations & Nature Positive Transition

Focusing on “Nature Transition Actions,” this seminar explored how companies can expand beyond basic mitigation to leverage growing international momentum for broader actions, such as Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) and Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs).

Event Highlights:

Oct 28 Workshop: Expert Engagement for TNPI Members

Designed exclusively for Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative (TNPI) members, this internal workshop connected leading companies with diverse experts in ecological conservation, nature mapping, blue carbon, OECMs, and TNFD methodology to brainstorm solutions for practical barriers.

Key Findings:

The session shared results from the “It’s Now for Nature Pulse” survey (member version). Participating members identified the top five barriers to action in Taiwan as:

  1. Executive support
  2. Positive ROI on nature
  3. Internal communications and buy-in
  4. Developing a nature strategy
  5. High-quality nature actions
