BCSD Taiwan Engages Businesses and Government Officials in High-Level Dialogue on Nature Strategy and Action
(Taipei, February 12, 2025)
Under the support of the Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative, BCSD Taiwan recently hosted the ‘ CSO New Year Dialogue Gathering ‘. The event brought together Chief sustainability officers(CSOs) from initiative’s members and representatives from government agencies, including the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, the Ocean Conservation Administration, and the National Park Service. The gathering aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities for government-business collaboration in promoting nature action, enhance the alignment between policies and corporate practices, and foster an environment conducive to driving Nature Positive.
As global nature trends evolve, nature action has gradually shifted from isolated efforts to collaborative endeavors between enterprises and governments. Although businesses have long engaged in nature action, guidelines such as TNFD and SBTN now require companies to assess their impact of business models before acting. During this process, businesses have realized the necessity of government support, whether the overarching policies like the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs) or the release of maps, datasets and methodological resources to identify state of nature. At the same time, governments also rely on corporate support in terms of human resources, funding, and technology to successfully implement national conservation objectives.
For the first time, the Dialogue gathering adopted the international conference model of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), organizing discussions around three thematic tables: terrestrial ecosystems, marine ecosystems, and national parks and wetlands. Corporate representatives rotated among tables to ensure meaningful dialogues with all three key government agencies, exchanging practical business experiences and policy development recommendations. Discussions centered on two core themes:
- How can enterprises and the government deepen their collaboration? and
- How can policy and action be better aligned to advance forestry and nature conservation, marine conservation, and national park and wetland conservation?
The event invited representatives from Deloitte, KPMG, and PwC-members of BCSD Taiwan-to guide companies in exploring the necessity and feasibility of collaboration while identifying potential opportunities for corporate-government cooperation in implementing nature action.

The Dialogue gathering featured remarks by Minister Peng Chi-Ming of the Ministry of Environment, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the Executive Yuan Sustainability Officers’ Alliance. Minister Peng affirmed the importance of dialogue between businesses and the government and expressed his commitment to participating in future exchanges. The event was also attended by Deputy Director-General Lin Hao-Chen of the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, Director-General Lu Shiau-Yun of the Ocean Conservation Administration, and Acting Director-General Chen Chen-Jung of the National Park Service, all of whom engaged in in-depth discussions with corporate representatives.

Additionally, Pallavi Kalita, Asia Lead of Business for Nature, was invited to share global case studies on government-business collaboration. She highlighted Malaysia’s approach, where the Malaysia Platform for Business and Biodiversity (MPBB) facilitates connections between enterprises and the government while also supporting the development of Malaysia’s NBSAPs—offering valuable insights for Taiwanese enterprises.

As Taiwan’s first high-level dialogue gathering dedicated to nature issues, the event provided a direct platform for businesses to engage with government, establish communication channels, and seek support through government matchmaking programs and resources, such as TNFD local guidelines and OECM local guidance.
Moving forward, BCSD Taiwan will continue to collaborate with partners from the Taiwan Nature Positive Initiative—including Acer , Advantech , Bank SinoPac , Cathay Financial Holdings , Chunghwa Telecom , CTBC Financial Holding, Delta Electronics , Nan Shan Life Insurance, Qisda, Sinyi Realty , Taishin Holdings , Topco Scientific , and Wistron NeWeb Corporation —to foster multi-stakeholder dialogue, strengthen public-private collaboration, and lay a more solid foundation for Taiwan’s sustainable natural development.
