As the global “Nature Positive” goal—Halt and Reverse Nature Loss by 2030 on a 2020 baseline and achieve full recovery by 2050—gradually enters the spotlight, businesses are under increasing pressure to respond to stakeholder expectations with meaningful actions. To support this, WBCSD in collaboration with WEF, Capitals Coalition, and Business for Nature, introduced the ACT-D framework (Assess, Commit, Transform, and Disclose). This approach aims to provide clear guidance for businesses embarking on nature-positive journeys.
Building on this foundation, BCSD Taiwan released the “Nature Positive -Taiwan Report” in July 2024 and hosted three seminars focused on the ACT-D framework’s stages. Each event brought together leading experts and companies to share insights and practical experiences, fostering the adoption of nature-positive practices across Taiwanese businesses.
9/11 Seminar: Disclose – Embracing Transparency in Nature Reporting
The first seminar centered on “Disclose,” coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the TNFDv1.0 framework’s release and the launch of BCSD Taiwan’s Traditional Chinese translation of the “GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024” standards.
Highlights included a video message from GRI Chief Standards Officer Bastian Buck, expressing gratitude for the translation effort, and presentations by leading companies and academic experts. Key speakers such as Chief Researcher at Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance (TABF); Professor from Institute of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, National Taiwan University; and Representor from CDP. Leading companies including Delta Electronics and Qisda, shared their practical insights into promoting natural disclosure through internal and external actions.
10/9 Seminar: Assess & Commit – Setting Foundations for Nature Action
The second seminar focused on the “Assess” and “Commit” stages of the ACT-D framework. Biodiversity experts from Taiwan Biodiversity Information Alliance (TBIA) and experts from ERM Taiwan presented practical tools, resources, and methodologies for conducting nature assessments and commitments. Corporate representatives such as AUO and Taiwan Mobile, offered invaluable case studies, detailing their strategies and challenges in evaluating internal practices and formulating nature-positive strategies.
11/20 Seminar: Transform – Overcoming Barriers to Broader Action
The final seminar addressed “Transform,” the most challenging phase for businesses adopting the ACT-D framework. The Chairperson of Taiwan Eco Tech Association and Director of the NTU Experimental Forest, provided in-depth guidance on implementing actions based on the Science-Based Targets for Nature (SBTN) AR3T framework and advanced offset strategies.
Additionally, leading companies such as Taiwan Cement Corporation, and Delta Electronics Foundation, showcased how their organizations are pursuing beyond-value-chain actions to amplify their impact on nature. These real-world examples provided attendees with concrete insights into navigating the complexities of nature transformation.
Inspiring a Broader Vision for Nature and Business
Through these three seminars, which each attracted an average of nearly 100 participants, BCSD Taiwan successfully deepened participants’ understanding of the ACT-D framework while advancing the dialogue on nature issues within Taiwan’s corporate sector. These events underscored the importance of expanding possibilities in the “Transform” phase and enhancing stakeholder engagement. They also highlighted the value of aligning corporate strategies with international standards to seamlessly integrate into global trends.
BCSD Taiwan extends its gratitude to its Initiative’s members-Acer , Advantech , Bank SinoPac , Cathay Financial Holdings , Chunghwa Telecom , Delta Electronics , Qisda, Sinyi Realty , Taishin Holdings , Topco Scientific , and Wistron NeWeb Corporation . —for their unwavering support.
