BCSD Taiwan Releases “Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” Launching Taiwan Corporate toward Nature Positive Journey

Taipei, 2 July 2024:

When discussing natural sustainability, regional impacts and dependencies on natural issues vary, making localized conservation strategies vital. Supported by Taiwan Natural Positive Initiative, BCSD Taiwan recently launched ” Nature Positive – Taiwan Report,” providing Taiwan’s first localized natural sustainability action guide. At the Report-launch event on July 2nd, Julian Hill-Landolt, WBCSD Nature Action Senior Director, visited Taiwan to share forward-looking perspectives on nature action and related initiatives.

“Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” aims to guide companies in identifying and taking effective conservation actions. The report is centered around the ACT-D (Assess, Commit, Transform, Disclose) framework, co-developed by WBCSD, WEF, and Capitals Coalition. It compiles professional information, assessment tools, expert opinions, and practical cases from Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings. After multiple discussions and revisions, the guide tailored to Taiwan’s characteristics was completed.

The report highlights the risks of natural degradation and biodiversity loss, defines nature positive, and introduces the ACT-D framework, guiding companies through four stages of nature action:

  1. Assess: Companies must comprehensively evaluate their operations and value chains for impacts and dependencies on nature using tools like the Natural Capital Protocol, biodiversity maps, and guidelines from TNFD and SBTN.
  2. Commit: Based on assessments, companies should set specific conservation goals and commitments, integrating them into core strategies, such as achieving specific biodiversity goals in key areas within a set timeframe.
  3. Transform: Companies need to develop and implement action plans to meet their conservation goals, including improving production processes, adopting sustainable resource management strategies, and participating in ecological projects.
  4. Disclose: Companies should regularly disclose their nature action progress and outcomes according to international standards, ensuring transparency through external verification and supervision.

Following the ACT-D framework can significantly enhance companies’ abilities to address natural risks and create long-term financial and social value. The experiences from Delta Electronics and Cathay Financial Holdings also encourage more companies to adopt the ACT-D framework, contributing to a nature-positive future and global natural environment.

The publication of ” Nature Positive – Taiwan Report” is mainly supported by Taiwan Natural Positive Initiative members, including Chunghwa Telecom, Taishin Holdings, Delta Electronics, Bank SinoPac, Acer, Qisda, Sinyi Realty, Advantech, Cathay Financial Holdings, Topco Scientific, and Wistron NeWeb Corporation.
